Gnome sweet gnome, for friends of the little-people an S.S. Stewart with an elaborate carved heel featuring a gnome playing, of course, a banjo. It has a spun-over metal clad rim on a wood core in a cherry-colored stain, fit with a 11-1/2" hide head. It has a lot of original or period hardware, including most of the 24 tension bracket parts and the 'Improved Common Sense' tailpiece with a carved bone flower. The fancy carving on the neck is often associated with fancier fingerboard inlays, both found on Presentation models. The ebony fretboard has pearl inlays, as does the ebony headstock overlay. Back of the headstock is carved in a floral motif. The newer Waverly friction tuners have ivoroid buttons. Includes a modern bump-style hardshell case. Made in USA.
