Banjo Scale Length
Scale length is the vibrating length of the string - from bridge to nut.
Both Standard Scale (26-3/16")and Short Scale (25-1/2") tune to the common tunings of G & Double C. String tension is higher and left-hand reach a little longer with Standard scale.
A-scale (23-1/2") tunes one step higher to A & D - no capo for those popular keys. Strings may be floppy if tuned down to G or C.
Standard Scale has roots in banjo history and is the preferred scale for bluegrass banjos. Short Scale is increasingly common in new openback banjos.
