Introduced in the early 1960s, the SG Special was conceived as a model sitting between the entry-level SG Junior and the SG Standard, combining stripped-down simplicity with a bit more versatility. Despite its more modest positioning, it quickly became associated with some of rock's most memorable riffs and performances, finding its way into the hands of players like Pete Townshend, Angus Young, and Tony Iommi. The double-cut mahogany body and SlimTaper neck have a well-earned reputation for comfort, and the pair of P-90 soapbar pickups give it a voice that sits in its own lane between a traditional single-coil and a humbucker. Hand-wired controls with Orange Drop capacitors round out a deceptively no-frills package, with a striking Ebony finish. A hardshell case is included.
