The name reflects the belief that this guitar would be sonically indistinguishable from a Les Paul Standard or Custom, with the flashier appointments reserved for stage use. Over four decades later, that philosophy holds, and the Studio remains one of the most practical guitars Gibson makes. The essentials are all here: mahogany body with maple cap, SlimTaper neck profile, bound rosewood fretboard, and a pair of Burstbucker Pro pickups wired to push/pull volume controls for coil tapping.
