A World War I Era example of Gibson's entry-level oval-hole A-style mandolin, built in Kalamazoo during the waning years of the mandolin-craze at the time. It has a carved spruce top with black finish, birch back and sides finished reddish-brown, mahogany neck, flat ebony fingerboard with pearl dot inlays, rope-patterned marquetry soundhole rosette, and grained ivoroid top binding. One-piece ebony compensated bridge. Engraved "The Gibson" nickel tailpiece cover. It is equipped with a raised tortoise celluloid pickguard and 4-on-a-plate open-gear tuners. Original hardshell case.
