The Glenbuchat Ballads
ed. by David Buchan and James Moreira
A trove of previously unpublished Scottish ballads. Reverend Robert Scott, minister of the parish of Glenbuchat in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, compiled a collection of traditional ballads, probably about 1818. These manuscripts, containing 68 ballads in four folios, were not included in the seminal "English And Scottish Popular Ballads" collection by Francis James Child; coming to light in 1949. Though Scott did not give the exact locations of where he collected the ballads or name the performers, his texts are unique and appear to have been drawn from oral sources. Hardcover, 304 pp.
