Book/CD pack. This collection gives mandolinists the opportunity to learn over 70 old-time period songs recorded mostly by Ernest Stoneman, or the duo Grayson & Whitter, during the 1920s and early 1930s. Many were often rearrangements, in the truest folk tradition, of songs learned from a local communities oral tradition, or "borrowed" from existing published song collections. CD tracks of some of the songs as recorded by different string band artists are provided so performances can be compared. This gives you the opportunity to develop a personal performing style by emulating what the original artists "laid down in wax." Includes a helpful appendix of frequently used note sequences. Note/tab. 78 pp.
