John grew up playing classical violin, never having heard fiddle music until his 20’s. He has developed a mastery at distinguishing and teaching the techniques that separate the symphony from the barn dance. Having cut his teeth playing thousands of shows, playing 5 nights per week in Irish Pubs and folk dances across eastern Canada, he fell in love with the sound of traditional fiddle playing. By studying written transcriptions and old recordings, John has assembled a huge repertoire of tunes, styles, and techniques.

Most importantly, John has learned to teach these techniques in an approachable manner that is sure to benefit any player from a beginning level to the most seasoned professional who is looking to add an authentic feel to their fiddle playing.
