This is an attractive and well-built banjo, made by John E. Quinlan in Boston about 1890. ~25-5/8" scale, ~11" skin head, mahogany neck, ebony fretboard with single maple underlay and attractive engraved pearl inlays. Original mechanical friction pegs stamped "PAT. MAY 8, 88". 26 brackets, dowel stick marked "J.E. QUINLAN / ---MAKER---  / BOSTON - MASS" and "PAT. APL'D FOR". Wooden pot with nickel plated pointed rim cap and tone ring with 14 holes.  VGC+ except could use some work (high action -- heat press neck which has some warp, reseat loose frets, new bridge), etc. - sold AS-IS). With chipboard SSC.
