This violin is a terrific Guarneri copy from French maker Francois/Francis Simonin who emigrated to the U.S. and lived in Cleveland, Ohio, when this violin was made. It has a one-piece slab-cut domestic maple back of strong medium-narrow curl, antiqued amber-brown varnish, Brazilian rosewood pegs, and other fittings made of ebony. The tailpiece has a golden shield with the previous owners initials on it. This violin offers very focused strong tone. It has a Guarneri replica label along with the maker’s label and brand, as well as the original certificate to the previous owner from Lyon & Healy, dated June 7, 1928.
