YOU can find your way around the fingerboard! under the guidance of our own Elden Kelly.
So, you want to master the guitar fingerboard? You want to learn the notes, the intervals and get around better? Certain regions are familiar and others remain elusive? Well then, you've come to the right place!
Every chord and interval on the guitar is "movable" if you know how to do it right. When you begin to see and understand shapes on the fingerboard, you can play with much more ease and understanding of how music and theory works on the guitar.
If you've encountered the CAGED system, you've either been enlightened or confused. It's a good starting point, but actually only a small piece of a much bigger picture. We'll learn 2, 3 and 4-note chord shapes, scale and arpeggio shapes that are transferable across the neck, and you'll unlock shortcuts and patterns to help memorize notes WAY faster! We'll make the link between harmony and single notes in all the positions on the neck that have remained previously unclear. By learning these shapes you'll be able to play most songs and play and transpose to all keys.
This class will be useful for almost any level; from anyone who knows only the basic set of first-position chord forms to accomplished players! Handouts will be provided in class as well.
Elden Kelly is a conservatory-trained guitarist, singer and composer. He is a professor of guitar at Kalamazoo College and a longtime popular instructor at Elderly Instruments.
