*Disclaimer: This review is based on the specific one of these that I've gotten my hands on. Each instrument will vary slightly, but be the same in general. Buying from Elderly will insure that you get an instrument that has been setup and inspected before shipping to you. The same cannot be said for some of the other large vendors.
The Cordoba 25S I received is very nice in every way. The solid top wood is especially beautiful and looks like something that would belong on a much more expensive instrument. The veneer chosen for the laminate back and sides is nice too, but not as interesting as the top.
This is a very well built instrument from top to bottom. Sound is tricky to comment on because everyone hears things differently. My personal opinion is this is a really great sounding instrument. I'm not going to say more than that because trying to describe sound with words is next to pointless. Hopefully you, the reader, can try one for yourself.
I do think the video from Cordoba with the demo of the 25 series does a good job showing what these can do. Just try to listen through quality headphones or speakers. Also, keep in mind it is a pro player who really knows how to bring the best out of an instrument.
It has a compensated bone saddle and a bone nut. Those things are usually found in more expensive instruments. The binding and other decorative features are a nice touch without going over the top. The tuning machines look just like the Grover 9 machines but they're not stamped as Grover. They are also 14:1 ratio just like the Grovers. They are working fine, but may or may not be quite as good as the actual Grovers.
I highly recommend the gray Cordoba gig bag (not the more basic black one) if you'd rather go that route rather than a hard case. The bag offers a lot of padding and protection. It's very sturdy and well made. It's definitely one of the higher quality bags I've seen, and the price is really great for what you get (around $30 at the time of this writing).
Final thought: Coming in at just under $200 this instrument is a great value. You really do get a lot of uke for your money here.
