Many in the know consider him to be among the finest old-time banjo-pickers alive, but the redoubtable Reed Martin isn't otherwise "famous" in the usual sense, and except for one privately-produced tape of sporadic availability, there's been no commercially-available recording of him---until now. There are few (if any) clawhammer-style banjoists who match the virtuosic melodic style with the rhythmic, driving, powerful sound of the old-timers as Martin does, and this cornucopia of tunes (37 in all!) are nearly all ones he's collected himself. Includes a beautifully-written, 19-page insert with tunings, notes and many anecdotes and photos about the tunes and the old-time players they came from. What a treasure!
