BILL WYMAN'S BLUES ODYSSEY
When Bill Wyman, former bassist with the Rolling Stones, was asked to create a TV documentary about the blues, he expanded the project to include a beautiful book (our stock number 542-50) and this excellent 2-CD compilation of some of his personal favorite blues records. The 46 tracks range from "Papa" Charlie Jackson's 1925 recording of "Spoonful" to 1951 sides from B.B. King and Elmore James. Inbetween we get a grand tour of the blues, with most of the legendary greats (Robert Johnson, Memphis Minnie, Blind Blake, Blind Lemon Jefferson, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters) but also plenty of more obscure figures. With a booklet of Wyman's comments on each track, and very good sound, this is a terrific and varied introduction to the genre.
