CIGAR BOX GUITAR
ART STASH - "Anonymous" - This guitar pushes the envelope in the cigar box realm. It utilizes a very fine wood, deep body "art" box (complete with handle) which opens up to reveal a hidden box inside !!! Other features include a humbucker pickup, volume & tone controls, floating bridge and machine screw nut. Redefines the "hollow-body" concept very nicely.

CIGAR BOX GUITAR - 21ST CENTURY EDITION
Cigar box stringed instruments date back to the mid-19th century and are typically comprised of an empty wooden cigar box with a chunk of broom handle running through the box and 1-3 strings. These were prominent in the early jug bands along with the washtub bass, jug, washboard and harmonica. They have persisted through the years and presently there is something of a revival going on. Blues players in particular are returning to the cigar box guitar for a truly raw delta blues sound. This group of "hot-rodded" instruments thrusts the tradition into the 21st century. They are made in Michigan using a variety of wooden cigar boxes (occaisionally fancier boxes). The necks, while still very rudimentary, are more "sophisticated" than a chunk of broomstick, being fretted, having position markers & actual tuning machines, and a machine screw for the nut. The bridge floats on the top. They have either 4 or 6 strings and electromagnetic pickups with volume & tone controls. Sometimes, just sometimes they are even more "advanced" than that, with real nuts, saddle inserts, truss rods, coil tap switches & ... Want to play some really raw blues??? Grab one of these, plug into a "smokey amp" and drive a 412 with it. You will be noticed. You will be discussed.
