The "Country Tuning" allows the playing of a major scale in crossharp (2nd position) by raising the 5 draw note one half-step, making it more attractive to some players and for some applications. The 542 Golden Melody diatonic harmonica is a long-time Hohner staple. It is the only harp they produce that uses "Equal Temperament" tuning. This means that all notes are tuned exactly true to A440 values (other, "Just temperament" tuned harps are tuned with individual notes having wee variances to make the chords sound true). A tremendously useful alternate tuning for the diatonic harp, The Natural Minor features flatted notes at holes 2,5 and 8 blow and holes 3 and 7 draw -- this allows you to get minor chords without the bends and overblows normally needed to get those flat notes. You need to play cross (2nd position) harp with these, so they are labeled in the key you will play in (buy a C to play in Cm, cross harp). Minor blues, jazz and reggae never sounded so good!
