Why East Lansing High School? click here for a short video of ELHS and the Fringe
Our kids will be performing Studs Terkel's "Working" at the Fringe (first performed on Broadway in 1978), with music by Stephen Schwartz, James Taylor and others. They did 7 stellar performances of this unique show at the high school in the Fall. Some Highlights from ELHS's performance of Working A letter to you from director, Mark Shaheen.
Why is this such an honor for ELHS?
a) We are the only high school chosen out of 700 in Michigan for the 2008 Fringe. b) There are 50 high schools in the US (out of 30,000 total) invited this year. c) This is an opportunity to be involved in an internationally renowned arts festival. d) This experience can open eyes and doors for our students.
ELHS needs to raise about $150,000 to get about 25 kids with directors and chaperones to Scotland in these days of the shrinking US dollar. East Lansing High School
Theater will offer students a "fair share" cost for the trip of between
$2000-$3000 per student. As this trip costs so much more the rest of the costs
must be covered through our fundraising efforts. This is where we need strong
support from the East Lansing and Greater Lansing communities, businesses,
corporations and individuals who support the arts. We have several Major Donation sponsorship options available. This is not only an award for the East Lansing Theater Department, but also for the city, the Greater Lansing area and the State of Michigan. Help us send our kids to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh Scotland in 2008 with your generous donation! Thank you for your support of the East Lansing High School Theater program!
