Fingerstyle Guitar Workshop with Chris Proctor

A fingerstyle lesson with reknowned performer Chris Proctor!

Saturday , September 29, 2007
12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Location: Elderly Instruments
workshop ($50)

This workshop will focus first on evaluating and improving your right hand skills, to help you create and play melodies and accompany them at the same time. Chris will also cover creating new sounds with your guitar and explore the best ways to discover new open-tunings. If students have an interest in 12-string fingerstyle its special opportunities and techniques can be explored as well. Chris' goal is that you will leave the workshop a better, more inspired, fingerstylist, with a much clearer view or your skills and the opportunities they provide.

Chris Proctor is the winner of the U.S. National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship, and popular Sugarhouse, Rounder, Flying Fish and Windham Hill recording artist. He is also a nationally-recognized 6 and 12-string guitarist, composer, recording artist, performer, and clinician for Taylor Guitars, Proctor has produced several books and videos which teach his techniques and compositions for solo guitar, and writes extensively for the guitar press. He is touring to promote his new release and ninth solo recording, Ladybug Stomp on Sugarhouse Records, his 6 and 12-string instructional DVD’s for Homespun Tapes, and his Warner book/instructional CD, Chris Proctor, Guitar Collection.

Chris Proctor is known nationwide as one of the modern masters of fingerstyle guitar, and is at the forefront of contemporary steel-string guitar. Since winning the National Fingerstyle Guitar competition more than 20 years ago, he has toured constantly, releasing a steady stream of recordings of his own compositions and arrangements. His music is rooted in classic Americana- spiced with folk, Celtic, jazz, pop, and classical flavors, all of which are in evidence in the 12 finely-crafted original pieces which comprise Ladybug Stomp. His two recent popular and critical hits, The Chris Proctor Collection, which reprises his first 25 years of writing, and Under the Influence, a finely-crafted nod to the music that shaped his artistic development, are best-sellers among acoustic guitar enthusiasts. He has appeared on two popular Windham Hill Guitar Samplers and has been a clinician for Taylor Guitars since 1984. To honor him Taylor recently manufactured 100 "Chris Proctor Signature Model" guitars to his unique design specifications.
