The teaser printed by Sing Out! above, originated with Rich Warren's WFMT "Folkstage":" "Cindy Kallet's rare music moves me profoundly....Kallet, quite simply, casts a spell with her unpretentious, unproduced music. Her pleasant alto voice carries her unique songs through the intellect and straight to the heart." - Sing Out! Review, Vol. 45, No. 1.
"...one of folk music's most respected songwriters.... provocative, heartwise, and original... a brilliant guitarist..." - Scott Alarik in The Boston Globe
On another occasion, Alarik wrote, "Cindy has quietly become one of folk music's most respected singer-songwriters." Her fans include audiences of all ages and varied occupations; they all find good reason to love Cindy's music, from her skillful playing to her heartfelt singing to her honest and intelligent songwriting to her quietly outrageous humor.
In addition to concert performances, Cindy also teaches at music camps and is availabale for private guitar lessons, songwriting residencies, and workshops--the latter to Elderly's advantage.
Designed for Advanced-Beginner to Advanced-Intermediate players, Cindy's acoustic guitar workshop will cover both right- and left-hand techniques. Students should be comfortable changing to and from the basic first-position chords in order to benefit fully from this class. Bring a tuned acoustic guitar.
The first hour will focus on the wonderfully creative things the right hand is capable of doing: selecting which strings to play, changing tone quality, trying new strums and adapting old ones to new ideas, and creating new rhythmic structures. Then the focus turns to left-hand technique: slightly altering familiar chords to make new ones, playing only certain parts of chords, and learning new ways to use hammer-ons and pull-offs.
"Excellent instrumentalist, and a voice that will give you the shivers." - Gordon Bok
"When I was torn between folk music and opera (!), Cindy was one of the reasons I chose to pursue folk music. Her music is lyrical and honest and connects with an intimate space that only a powerful solo performer can reach." - Dar Williams
"The first time I saw Cindy play and sing, I was instantly jealous, knowing I'd never be able to sound like that...." - Christine Lavin
Also see Cindy Kallet in concert with Grey Larsen at The Ten Pound Fiddle Coffeehouse on Friday, March 16, at 8 pm.
