A FREE in-store bluegrass concert by Lare Williams & New Direction

"It's no coincidence that 'Lare' rhymes with 'flair'..." - Bluegrass Now Magazine

Saturday , February 19, 2005
12:00 pm
Location: Elderly Instruments
in-store performance (free)

There's nothing like the "high lonesome" (and sometimes hard-driving) sounds of authentic bluegrass music to warm your veins in the dead of the dreary February doldrums. This is Lare Williams & New Direction's third in-store concert in as many years; the first was very well-received and the second soon became 'standing room only,' so come early to get a good seat for this 45-minute free traditional bluegrass show.

Lare Williams & New Direction have played numerous festivals throughout the Midwest in their few-but-successful years together; they've appeared at The Ark in Ann Arbor, the Tri-States Bluegrass Festival, the Grand Rapids Folk Arts Society, the Creole Gallery, the Marshall Bluegrass Festival, Ohio's Bluegrass Junction, Byron Goes Bluegrass, to name a few.

Lare Williams on bass, Paul Pope on banjo, Patty Williams on mandolin, and Tony Zapolnik on guitar will wow you with their talented take on traditional tunes as well as Lare's originals, for which he has received considerable acclaim.

As of December 18 and the release of A Name of My Own, Lare Williams will have three CDs to his credit: Play What? in 2000 including "Silver Platter," "Daddy's Hands, "Home Again"...; Grandpa John in 2002 with "Angel Band,"
"Dobro Jack," "Little Mountain Church House"... and the new release, with "It Doesn't Matter Anymore," "River of Jordan," "Gospel According to Luke"... and Lare's original "Old Guitar," which previously hit the #1 spot on Indianapolis' WICR Fields of Bluegrass program after just three weeks on the air. This popular new song also reached the semi-final round of the Dallas Songwriters' Association National Competition, placing it in the "Top 10 in the nation" for 2003. The new release also showcases Special Guests Scott Vestal and Ronnie & Garnet Bowman and other fine artists, including the fine fiddler Peter Knupfer.

"Lare Williams is a highly adept musician from Kentwood, Michigan, and...has a distinctive vocal style that imparts a unique perspective to the music...." - Bluegrass Unlimited

"Lare Williams is a fresh, new, young talent....This young man clearly shows an aptitude for singing, playing, and producing solid bluegrass music." - Bluegrass Now

"...one of the finest bluegrass projects of the year...a band that is clicking on all eight cylinders." - Bluegrass Breakdown, Nashville, TN

So brave the winter and come see LWND--Elderly's toasty-warm.
