The Kruger Brothers are Returning to Elderly

"...oh man! As the old saying goes, I was in hog heaven...!" - Doc Watson's praise for The Kruger Brothers

Saturday , January 29, 2005
12:00 pm
Location: Elderly Instruments
in-store performance (free)

They're coming baaaaack! A little over a year ago when The Kruger
Brothers played the Creole Gallery, they offered a free in-store concert. A good time was had by all, and they enjoyed Elderly so much that they're playing here again--and the noon performance is free again. Then they're off to play at the 28th Annual Ann Arbor Folk Festival in the evening.

What you'll hear is traditional American folk and bluegrass with classical European influences--from Swiss natives. With 30 years of music under their belts, The Kruger Brothers have appeared regularly in the U.S. since 1997 at North America's most prestigious events, including MerleFest, the Doc Watson Music Fest, IBMA, the Wayne Henderson Festival, Wings and Strings, the Oklahoma International Bluegrass Festival.... Their latest CD, Choices, released at MerleFest, 2004, in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, was the band's first studio album to be recorded and mixed in the States.

Since moving to North Carolina permanently a year ago, the wildly-popular trio now looks forward to performing year-round throughout the States. Lead vocalist and guitarist Uwe (Oo'vay) Kruger is a product of diverse influences ranging from Eric Clapton, Jerry Garcia and Doc Watson to Bach, Beethoven and Brahmns. Brother Jens (Yenz) took up the banjo at age 10 in his native Switzerland and five years later left home with Uwe to travel Europe as street musicians. Bassist Joel Landsberg brings to the trio classical piano training resulting in a cultural mix of styles ranging from Broadway and Classical to Jazz and Rhythm & Blues.

Here's a slightly more detailed version of Doc Watson's extensive raves for The Kruger Brothers: "I haven't heard a set of music in many a day that I enjoyed more than I did The Kruger Brothers at Greenfield's in Ashe County....oh man! As the old saying goes, I was in hog heaven....the way they wove that together with little, almost classical riffs between the songs yet not losing one bit of the flavor....I couldn't believe the work they had done on that music to put it together like that without taking away anything from the original...!"

There you have it, from the mouth of the master. In addition to showcasing exceptional talent, they're also a lot of fun, so don't miss this chance to enjoy them--free.
