Elderly is fortunate to be able to offer workshops by a master teacher. Dan Levenson--an excellent clawhammer player and teacher himself--wrote in the April 1997 Banjo Newsletter of Ken Perlman: "In my opinion, Ken is the undisputed king of the melodic banjo style." Far more than a performing artist, Ken Perlman "has established himself as the main man in the field of clawhammer banjo--successfully combining a career that includes writing excellent instruction manuals, recording and musical scholarship." - Garry Copeland, Express & Star (Wolverhampton UK), 1997. Ken's beginning-level clawhammer workshops have proven successful over the years.

This workshop is a hands-on introduction and review of basic clawhammer techniques, beginning with basic right-hand mechanics as well as left-hand techniques such as hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides. Ken will also introduce some procedures for integrating simple melodies into standard clawhammer-style picking patterns. This workshop will include opportunities for hands-on practice and review of basic brush-thumbing and backup skills. Be sure to bring your banjo.
