Taught by Harmonious Wail's jazz bassist John Mesaloras, this 90-minute workshop titled "Holding Down the Bottom: The Bass in Acoustic Music" will begin with discussion and examples of the role of the bass in Gypsy swing, various jazz styles, bluegrass, and other styles. The session will offer an overview of basic harmony as it relates to note choice both as a bassist and as a soloist, deciphering and playing chord charts, a discussion of amplification issues, and discussion of instruments, playing position/posture, set-up, etc., as time permits. The workshop is directed toward beginning to intermediate players with a working knowledge of their instrument. Please bring your bass.
