Elderly and Huss & Dalton Guitars present JIM HURST

Red-hot flatpicking AND fingerstyle playing--and much more, o my!

Thursday , March 25, 2004
06:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Location: Elderly Instruments
in-store event (free)

Elderly Instruments and Huss & Dalton Guitars present: JIM HURST in a combined Guitar Clinic, Workshop, and Concert.

Elderly and Huss & Dalton Guitars are proud to bring to Lansing a combination Clinic, Workshop, and Concert offered by IBMA Guitar Player of the Years 2001 and 2002, JIM HURST. A Huss & Dalton owner and endorser, Jim offers a select few of these appearances throughout the country each year. We're pleased to have a musician of his stature show off one of our favorite guitar lines and share an hour of excellent music.

During the first hour, Jim will address the construction, tone, and artistry of Huss & Dalton guitars, which have achieved a reputation as high-quality instruments. He'll discuss his styles and playing techniques, offer professional advice and suggestions regarding set-up, Fishman Transducer equipment, differences in live and recorded playing, amplification, d'Addario strings, alternate tunings, practice and rehearsal ideas, and more, along with time for questions and answers.

Jim will devote the remaining hour or so to playing an in-store concert, in which he'll offer a healthy dose of flatpicking, fingerstyle playing, and "strong, soulful" singing.

Featured on the cover of the Jan/Feb 1999 issue of Flatpicking Guitar, Jim is also well-known for his professional partnership with Missy Raines [voted "Bass Player of the Year" by the IBMA for four years running--1998-2001]. Elderly carries their ever-popular CDs and has hosted in-store concerts with Jim and Missy as recently as last September before their European tour.

Born in Kentucky and raised in Ohio with a guitar in his hands from the age of four, Jim has played many kinds of music, including but not limited to bluegrass, country, rock, and blues. His solo release, Second Son, blends contemporary songs, classics arranged by Jim, and original compositions. Jim currently lives in Nashville.

Jim is one of the most versatile guitarists and vocalists in the business, and his warm humor and inviting presentation will make this clinic and concert enjoyable for all. Join him for an educational and entertaining event on March 25 at 6 p.m.

"Jim Hurst has an attractive vocal delivery with his songs...but it has to take a back seat to his incredible flat-picking guitar work"--Country Music News

Seating is 'first-come, first-served,' so come early.
