Johnny Staats is a rare breed of musician.....one who lands a major recording contract, yet opts to keep his day job at UPS. Johnnys's major label debut "Wires & Wood" (GIANT/NASHVILLE), is a critically acclaimed, entirely acoustic effort that was released months before the "O Brother" craze swept the US. "Wires", features several special guests, including Kathy Mattea, John Cowan and Sara Evans, just to name a few. Johnny has been profiled in The New York Times, People magazine and USA Today. He has also appeared on the Today Show, CNN, CBS Evening News w/ Dan Rather, as well as making several appearances on WSM's Grand Ole Opry.

Johnny frequently tours w/ longtime friend and fellow West Virginian, Robert Shafer. Robert is a 2-time winner of the National Flatpicking Championship held annually in Winfield, Kansas. In addition to working w/ Johnny, Robert has performed with Mark O'Connor, Josh Graves & Kenny Baker, Vassar Clements, Robert Earl Keen and many others. He performs and teaches full-time and is an instructor at the 2003 Steve Kaufman Flatpicking Camp held in Maryville, TN.
