Pat DonohueFingerstyle Guitar Master & A Prarie Home Companion Regular
Pat Donohue is "a masterful guitarist and talented singer-songwriter of blues, folk and jazz" (Los Angeles Times). His talents are heard weekly on NPR's A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor. Donohue will play a free in-store performance at Elderly Instruments (1100 N. Washington, Lansing), at 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 10. At 8:00 that evening, the Ten Pound Fiddle coffeehouse presents a full concert with Donohue at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 855 Grove St, East Lansing. On Saturday March 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Donohue will lead a fingerstyle guitar workshop, also at Elderly. This workshop is intended for intermediate to advanced players, but beginners are welcome to attend. Topics covered will include; blues and swing styles, harmonic devices, improvising and arranging. Students are encouraged to bring their guitars and a battery-operated tape recorder. Cost for the workshop is $30.00 per person. Donohue's blend of blues and folk has won him numerous awards, including first place in the 1983 National Finger Picking Guitar contest. His original songs have been recorded by such respected artists as Chet Atkins and Suzy Bogguss. He is a featured performer at many major music festivals, including the Newport Folk Festival, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the Philadelphia Folk Festival. Donohue has recently released his fourth recording, Backroads on Bluesky Records. A collection of new original songs, Backroads features musical guests including Atkins, Howard Levy and Butch Thompson. His previous recordings are Two Hand Band, Life Stories and Big Blind Bluesy. Donohue also has three videos in the Vestapol series: Jazz Classics for Fingerstyle Guitar, Rags to Rock and Pat Donohue In Concert at the Freight and Salvage.
