John Hartford BandLegendary song writer, multi-instrumentalist & riverboat captain John Hartford along with Mike Compton, Bob Carlin, Chris Sharp and Larry Perkins.
John Hartford is one of the most protean, creative, and uncategorizable figures on the American music scene, and has been for well over 30 years. Best known to popular audiences, perhaps, as the composer of the country/pop standard "Gentle on my Mind" as well as for his appearances on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, Hartford has, from the start, represented something much deeper and wider in our culture. Hartford, along with the Hartford Stringband, play a free in-store performance at Elderly Instruments (1100 N. Washington, Lansing) at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 24. The group will also play the Ark in Ann Arbor Friday September 24, and downtown Bay City Saturday, September 25. The Hartford Stringband is touring in support of their brand-new Rounder Records release, Good Old Boys. This latest recording brings Hartford back to his roots, presenting him at his most relaxed, playing with musicians with whom he feels comfortable, in a program consisting only of original songs. The group consists of: Hartford on fiddle, banjo & vocals; Bob Carlin on banjo; Mike Compton on mandolin and vocals; Larry Perkins on banjo; Chris Sharp on guitar and vocals and Mark Scharz on bass. All but Schatz will play at the Michigan performances. Dont miss this opportunity to see a true American treasure in an intimate setting. Space is limited, so its recommended you arrive early for the best seats.
