Award-winning musical instrument maker William " Grit" Laskin will answer questions such as: How do pieces of trees create a box that can stir emotion' Why does the grain of a "soundboard" always go a certain direction' Why do guitar makers use so many politically incorrect materials' Laskin will answer these questions and more, using slides, demonstrations and anecdotes. He will also show how he has pushed the engraved inlay medium beyond its traditional decorative limits and into the art form for which he is the acknowledged master around the world. William Laskin was the first musical instrument maker in Canada to receive the Saidye Bronfman Award for Excellence, Canada’s most prestigious national craft award (1997/98). He has built instruments for many performers including kd lang, Tom Chapin and Stan Rogers. Cost: $20 per person Space is limited, so early registration is suggested.
