Leftover Salmon"Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass" from Boulder Colorado.
In a world where bands resist having their music classified into a simple genre, Leftover Salmon has created their own. With the merging of the progressive bluegrass band, Left Hand String Band, and the crazy, Cajun music of the Salmon Heads - Leftover Salmon spawned their own category: "Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass." Leftover Salmon plays a free, in-store performance at Elderly Instruments, (1100 N. Washington, Lansing) at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 1. The Boulder, Colorado based band is in Michigan for a May 30 gig at the Majestic Theater in Detroit. For nearly ten years the band has been winning over fans nationwide. From the blazing banjo playing of Mark Vann, to Drew Emmitt's stellar mandolin, guitar and fiddle playing, their bluegrass chops are even respected by traditional bluegrass fans. Combine all this with the lively rhythm provided by Jeff Sipe (formerly of the Aquarium Rescue Unit), on drums and Tye North on bass. Front man and consummate entertainer Vince Herman, on acoustic guitar, washboard and vocals, ties it all together with his seemingly boundless energy. Together you have five adventurous and skilled musicians playing on the edge. With performances marked by spontaneity and imagination, each concert is truly unique. The crowd is provided with both challenging music tuned to an art form, and comical antics to keep you smiling. This live energy is captured on their second release - Ask The Fish(1995), recorded at Boulder, Colorado's renowned Fox Theatre. In an hour's time Leftover Salmon gives you a savory taste of Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass. Leftover Salmon first went into the studio in 1993 to record Bridges To Bert, which was produced by Charles Sawtelle. After four years of almost constant touring, and the release of Ask The Fish, the band signed with Hollywood Records in 1997 and produced Euphoria, an exceptional example of LoS's musicianship and talents. For their upcoming Hollywood release, Leftover called on Randy Scruggs to produce. The release will feature an amazing cast of musical guests including: Waylon Jennings, Earl Scruggs, Taj Mahal, Sam Bush, John Cowan, Jerry Douglas, John Popper, Del & Ronnie McCoury, Sally Van Meter & more. This is not music for people who take themselves, the tunes they listen to, or the world in general too seriously. These are musicians playing for the pure hell of it, enjoying the moment and sharing it in an unpretentious, balls-to-the-wall way with their audience. Dont miss this rare opportunity to see and hear this band in the informal and intimate setting of Elderly Instruments.
