Such work often requires "parts," originals of which are always in very short supply, especially those parts which are prone to wearing out with age and use, such as tuning machines. When originals cannot be found, high quality replicas are an obvious alternative, though often difficult to come by. Now, two German luthiers, very active in the vintage instrument restoration realm have developed fine replicas of tuning machines produced in the late '1920's to the late 1940's. These are 3-on-a-plate style for 6-string guitars with solid headstocks and feature nickel plated brass plates & posts, plain plates, 1/4" post diameter and a post spacing of 1.3775"(on-center), steel worm gears and small cream colored oval buttons. The plate on one set has square ends and on the other set, 2-point ends.These are a great resource for anyone involved with restoration work or for anyone wanting to add a vintage feel to a new guitar.
