G-VGC, made by Edouard Schmidt of Kalamazoo, Mi. for the Fischer Music Shop, this is Schmidt's Amati model, nicely flamed one piece back, red-brown varnish, Knilling Perfection pegs, has a silvery somewhat sweet tone but not a huge sound, fingerboard has been narrowed at bridge end (about 38mm wide instead of the usual 42-43mm), but is normal at the nut end, with older decent oblong HSC (some wear) (SN:379)

VGC+, made in Battle Creek, Michigan, Ray's #40, Guarneri model, was finished near the end of Ray's life so workmanship is a bit rough, varnish was redone by Ed McCoppin who studied with Ray, two piece back of highly figured domestic maple, fine grain european spruce top, set up with Thomastik tailpiece and Helicore strings, shaded dark red oil varnish over a golden-yellow ground, big open tone with great G string, slightly more narrow neck - very comfortable for smaller hands, with light weight arrow shaped HSC, on consignment (SN:40)
